Brighton is a great starting point to access and ride in the beautiful Sussex South Down’s . There is a wide range of routes to choose from depending on your experience as an off road cyclist. We have some excellent circular routes that are a great introduction to mountain bike / trail riding. Some hills but nothing too onerous. There ae also some more challenging rides and areas where you can develop your riding skills.

South Downs

The South Downs has something for every kind of cyclist to enjoy and explore. As well as the famous South Downs Way there are 1,200 km of car-free bridleways across the National Park, miles of leafy country lanes and old railway trails including the Downs Link.

The 160km long South Downs Way is the only UK’s National Trail which is fully traversable by bike and there are many ways to enjoy it.

With so many tracks, trails and leafy lanes to discover and great places to stop for there’s never been a better time to discover the South Downs by bike.

Friston Forest

There are a wealth of trails available for all levels ranging from the officially marked family trails to the more extreme downhill sections and in-between there is a lot of single track to suit all levels. Let’s not forget to mention that you have the South Downs all around you too.

Houghton Forest MTB trails (also known as Whiteways trails)

are in Arundel in West Sussex on the South Downs. This is natural terrain mountain bike riding and if you know your way around there are trails for novices as well as intermediate riders. It is woody and not too big so you can't get too lost if you choose to explore. Trail maps of the forest are on Opencyclemap and copies of trail map can be purchased at the Cafe
